About

In this talk, Julia Kunin discusses her artistic process and the many influences and ideas that inform her work. She will also reflect on nearly two decades as part of an artistic community in Hungary. In creating feminist and queer sculptures that reference the figure, Kunin combines personal symbolism with surrealism. Her work has long been influenced by the decorative arts and Art Nouveau ceramics, evident in her richly glazed surfaces. Within these luminous finishes, the glitter and iridescence of the femme fatale are transformed into a gender-fluid warrior. Interior mirroring creates a baroque visual intensity, merging body, machine, and architecture. These otherworldly totems explore sexuality while incorporating pop cultural and space-age imagery. Plan Your Visit: Admission is free. This event takes place in Favrot Auditorium on Level 1 of the Glassell School of Art. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
