About

Pug Johnson grew up on the outskirts of Beaumont, Texas, surrounded by diverse musical influences including Cajun music, swamp pop, Tex-Mex, and honky tonk. He fronted early bands including Slow Rollin' Lows before forming Pug Johnson and The Hounds, where he developed his distinctive voice. His debut album "Throwed Off and Glad" drew on his Gulf Coast heritage and Texas musical traditions, while his follow-up "El Cabron" deepened his connection to Hill Country music after relocating to the Austin area, incorporating mariachi guitars and border music influences.
