About
Point of Departure is Houston's Classical Music Variety Show, a one-of-a-kind music series presenting thematic programs of classical and classical-adjacent music in a 1970s variety show-style format, complete with skits, banter, costumes, and lighting. Coffeehouse Music Salon explores spaces where people gather over hot beverages to share musical ideas and artistic inspirations, drawing inspiration from 1960s jazz clubs, 19th-century Parisian music salons, and modern indie specialty shops. The program features works by Art Tatum, Paul Schoenfield, Carter Pann, and J.S. Bach, along with the world premiere of a brand-new work by Houston-based composer Karim Al-Zand.
