About
Diwali, the festival of lights, is celebrated with multiple activities honoring the triumph of good over evil. Hindi and English storytimes occur at 11am and 1pm in the Parent Resource Library. Silambam Houston presents a traditional Indian dance performance at 5:30pm in Brown Auditorium. A Bollywood dance experience led by Tx2 Dance Company instructors takes place at 6pm in Gallery of Wonder. Diwali craft workshops highlighting the festival's traditions run from 5:30pm to 7:30pm in Kaleidoscope. Ongoing all-day activities include making toran flower garlands, kandil lanterns, chalk rangolis inspired by traditional designs that welcome Lakshmi the goddess of wealth, and paper diya lamps that symbolize light triumphing over darkness. Diwali is one of the most important religious festivals in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism.
