About
The Houston Open Source Society (HOSS) is dedicated to promoting open source software education, development, and support, professing collaborative coding practices, user-ownership of data and software, and digital civic engagement in the Houston metropolitan area. The society is flat and free, functioning as a democratic egalitarian collective with no money exchange. Meetings occur every Wednesday at different locations around Houston, featuring talks and discussions about open source projects and technologies, collaborative coding sessions, classes, and opportunities to contribute to civic technology initiatives including OpenStreetMap and Wikipedia. Activities include lightning talks, software development classes at all levels, open source collaboration, and community building.
