About
Thursday, October 29, 7:00 p.m. The King's Warden (왕과 사는 남자) Directed by Jang Hang-Jun (South Korea, 2026, 116 min., in Korean with English subtitles, digital) Set in 15th-century Korea, a young monarch is deposed by his uncle in a brutal struggle for power. Stripped of his crown and exiled to a remote mountain village, he lives under constant threat of execution. When a clever village chief expects a wealthy aristocrat to arrive, hoping to profit from the exile, he instead finds himself hosting a fallen king and his loyal court lady. What begins as a clash of expectations evolves into an unexpected and deeply human bond, blending moments of quiet humor with emotional tragedy. As political danger closes in, the story explores power, loyalty, and the cost of survival far from the palace. Friday, October 30, 7:00 p.m. Take Care of My Cat (고양이를 부탁해) Directed by Jeong Jae-eun (South Korea, 2001, 112 min., in Korean with English subtitles, 4K digital restoration) A hit with audiences in 2001, this newly restored classic chronicles the lives of five graduating girlfriends (among them Bae Doona and Lee Yo-won in breakout roles) whose bonds fracture as they contend with unrealized dreams and unequal opportunities. Set in the port city of Incheon, the film tackles notions of class, solidarity, and privilege – in what is now a timeless snapshot of a rapidly evolving society. Suffused with the joys of girlhood, yet clear-eyed about the uneasy transition into adulthood, Take Care of My Cat offers a tender portrait of young women at the turn of the new millennium. Saturday, October 31, 6:00 p.m. Colony (군체) Directed by Yeon Sang-ho (South Korea, 2026, 122 min., in Korean with English subtitles, digital) Horror master Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan) directs a new Korean zombie thriller starring Gianna Jun and Koo Kyo-hwan. Professor Se-jeong (Jun) is thrust into a bloody nightmare when a rapidly mutating virus is released during a biotech conference causing authorities to seal the facility. Trapped inside with no escape, Se-jeong along with a small group of survivors must fight to stay alive while the infected undergo horrific transformations. At its Cannes Film Festival premiere the audience exited doing the zombie walk! Sunday, November 1, 3:00 p.m. Korean Story Festival. All are welcome to learn more about Korean popular culture at this free-admission, all-ages event featuring activities and giveaway prizes. Sunday, November 1, 5:00 p.m. Hope (호프) Directed by Na Hong-jin (South Korea, 2026, 160 min., in Korean with English subtitles, digital) In the remote village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung- min) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) are called to find a mysterious creature that has wreaked havoc on the village. In the nearby forest, a coterie of hunters, including Sung- ki (Zo In-Sung) set out to track the beast and find themselves hunted instead. But all is not as it seems, and perceptions can be misleading. What begins as ignorance plants the seed of disaster, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic proportions.
