About
Born in 1974 in Laurel, Mississippi, Charlie Mars was influenced by artists ranging from Michael Jackson to the Violent Femmes. After moving to Jackson as a teenager, he attended Jackson Preparatory School and later Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he formed the Charlie Mars Band. After releasing Broken Arrow (1995), Born & Razed (1997), and End of Romance (1999), struggles with alcohol led him to disband and seek a reset in Sweden in 2001. Reinvigorated, he returned to the U.S., releasing his 2004 self-titled album and refining his sound. His Texas Trilogy of albums—Like a Bird, Like a Plane (2009), Blackberry Light (2012), and Money (2014)—produced with Billy Harvey, solidified his reputation as a heartfelt storyteller.
