About
Children's Museum Houston announces the return of its Sensory Friendly Days program, launching with a Halloween at the BOOseum event on October 19, 2026. This event is designed specifically for children with autism and sensory sensitivities and their families. Pre-registration is required. The event features a less crowded environment, light and sound reduction, extra visual safety signage, and designated quiet rooms. Activities include Texas Bubblers, a science touch table exploring bubbles from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.; trick-or-treating for treats and trinkets throughout the day; Monster Stuffies craft and language workshop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. limited to 10 at a time; Color Monster storytime at 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.; cloud slime making from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. limited to 10 at a time; and a sensory room open all day for breaks. Community resource partners include the University of Houston Cognitive Development Lab, Neuhaus Education Center, The Arc of Harris County, Easter Seals of Greater Houston, Houston Ballet with mini dance sessions, and Faithful Paws therapy pets. The museum provides caregiver tip sheets, social stories, sensory-friendly maps, and visual schedules in English and Spanish. Visitors can check out KultureCity Sensory bags containing noise-reducing headphones, fidgets, visual cue cards, and ID cards. Fresh Café is not open during this event, but visitors may bring their own lunch and snacks. For groups of 15 or more, contact Lydia Dungus at 713-535-7238.
