About

Matthew Payne and Clayton Chapin team up for an Early Show at the Big Top! Combine Townes Van Zandt and Joe Ely, and somewhere in the middle maybe, you'll find Matthew Payne. From the Saxon Pub: "Texas songwriter and Americana artist Matthew Payne brings the sound of the Hill Country straight to stage. His music moves seamlessly between folk, country, and blues." "He truly is Austin timelessness personified," says Taylor Wallace-Riegel, KUTX, and "his music moves seamlessly between folk, country, and blues." Matthew Payne grew up in the beautiful hill country surrounding Dripping Springs, and loved every minute of his two decades as an educator of English and Creative Writing in Austin public schools. The ten songs that make up the "Better Times" debut (2026) tell stories of conflicted characters at their brink, looking for a way forward, trying to carve it out, trying to make something better, trying to believe that "better times come from these." ☆ Clayton Chapin is a rising star in the country music scene, hailing from New Braunfels, Texas. Since embarking on his musical journey in 2021, Clayton has quickly made a name for himself, captivating audiences with his heartfelt songwriting and dynamic performances. He draws inspiration from country legends like Jason Eady, Merle Haggard, and Don Williams, blending classic influences with his distinctive sound. Recently, Clayton released his latest single, "Yeah I Do," which he's enthusiastically sending to Texas Radio, hoping to connect even more with fans across the state. With plans to release additional music before the end of the year, he is committed to sharing his artistic vision and continuing to grow as a musician. Clayton prides himself on delivering memorable performances that resonate deeply with audiences, and he aims to bring authenticity and passion to every song.
