About
Embodied Ecology: Creative Encounters with Weeds, a series of workshops with the artists of "La Maleza: Weeds as Teachers," an eco-dance performance and installation premiering November 2026 at the Houston Met Dance. Description: In this workshop series, we will learn about and engage in mindful observation, listening and sensing of plants thriving in urban environments. We will engage in creative practices including botanical drawing, sounding and/or moving in response to our observations. Somatic movement and improvisational explorations will be designed to awaken the participants' senses and open up possibilities for deeper awareness between human and more-than-human bodies and landscapes. Please bring a notebook and a drawing/writing utensil, comfortable clothes to move in, closed-toe shoes, hat, water and sunscreen as we may spend some time outdoors. Dancing + Drawing the Weedscape, with Nicole Sara Simpkins (@scylla_and_circe_press), Friday, Aug. 14, 2026, 10:00 am-1:00 pm.
